This policy explains how Peritiacon LLC (“we,” “us”) handles information on peritiacon.com, including the eRate2u web app. The eRate2u mobile apps for iPhone and Android have their own privacy policy at peritiacon.com/eRate2u-Privacy-Policy.

Information we collect

Information you give us. If you fill out our contact form or email us, we collect what you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number and message.

Information collected automatically. When you visit our site, our hosting provider, analytics tools and, if we add them in the future, advertising partners may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited and the time of your visit. See Cookies, analytics and advertising below.

How we use and share information

We use the information you give us to respond to you and to work with our customers and clients. If we bring on additional team members, they may see it on a need-to-know basis.

We don’t sell, trade or rent your contact information. We share information only:

• with service providers that help us run the site, such as our hosting provider and analytics or advertising partners, as described in this policy,
• when required by law, regulation or legal process,
• with your written consent for any other reasonable request.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

Cookies. Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Our site and the third-party tools on it may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working, understand how it’s used and, if ads are added, show and measure ads.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how peritiacon.com is used, such as which pages are visited and how people find us. We look at this information in aggregate, not to identify individual visitors. Google Analytics uses cookies, and Google’s use of this information is governed by its privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Advertising. peritiacon.com and the eRate2u web app do not currently show ads. We may add ads in the future, for example through Google AdSense, to help keep our tools free. If we do:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, would use cookies to show ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners show ads based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.
• Ad partners may collect information such as your IP address (which can be used to estimate your general location), browser and device information, and how you interact with ads.
• Ads in the eRate2u web app would appear on the page, not inside the price reading itself.

We’ll update this policy and its effective date before ads appear.

Your ad and cookie choices.

• Opt out of personalized advertising from Google at https://myadcenter.google.com.
• Opt out of personalized ads from many other ad companies at https://www.aboutads.info/choices.
• Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some site features may not work as well without them.

If you opt out, you may still see ads, but they won’t be based on your interests. If we show ads to visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we’ll ask for consent before using cookies for personalized ads.

eRate2u web app

This section applies to the eRate2u electricity price tool at peritiacon.com/erate2u.

What we collect. eRate2u asks for a US ZIP code and uses it only to look up the estimated electricity price for that area. The tool doesn’t require an account and doesn’t ask for your name, email address, phone number or precise location.

In your browser. The web app remembers your last ZIP code in your browser’s local storage so it’s filled in next time. You can clear it by clearing your browser’s site data.

On our server. Your ZIP code is sent to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to fetch prices. Our server keeps a small amount of information for each ZIP code, not for each person: the ZIP code’s general location (up to 30 days, so later lookups are fast), its price for each 5-minute interval (24 hours, for the past 24 hours chart), and a note that it was recently requested (24 hours). These records don’t include your IP address or anything else that identifies you.

Technical information. Our hosting provider automatically records basic request information, such as your IP address, the time of the request, browser type and the address requested, which includes the ZIP code. We use it only to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service, and these logs are deleted after up to 45 days.

Data sources. Price data comes from electric markets, utilities, intra grid operations, risk modeling, and other proprietary calculations. Our server requests market data for a ZIP code’s general area; these requests include no information that identifies you. We combine that data with averaging calculations that go into more calculations to produce an easy-to-read estimated delivered price.

Price disclaimer. Prices shown in eRate2u are estimated delivered electricity prices provided for informational purposes only. They are not your retail utility rate and may be delayed or inaccurate. Do not rely on them for billing or financial decisions.

Mobile apps. The eRate2u apps and home-screen widgets for iPhone and Android have their own privacy policy, which also covers possible in-app advertising: peritiacon.com/eRate2u-Privacy-Policy.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, such as California, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. We don’t sell personal information. If ads are added, you can opt out of targeted advertising using the choices above. For any other request, contact us at the email below. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.

Children’s privacy

This website is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information collected through this website against loss, misuse or unauthorized changes, and communication with the eRate2u tool is encrypted with HTTPS. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure. On public Wi-Fi or a shared computer, use a secure connection and clear your browser’s data afterward, or use your browser’s private mode.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, including before adding advertising. Changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
